It is definitely not just you. Since we became an independent company, the atmosphere has become hyper-focused on quarterly metrics rather than long-term product innovation. I’ve noticed the same trend with talent leaving—people are disengaging because the job security we once felt under the umbrella is gone. When leadership treats us like numbers on a spreadsheet instead of the engine of medical progress, morale naturally craters. Prioritizing your own sanity and logging off on time is the only rational response to this volatility.
Honestly, I think you're romanticizing the past a bit. Even before the spin-off, GE was always about bottom-line performance. The only difference now is that we are under a microscope without the conglomerate structure to buffer us. If you feel burnt out, it’s likely because the workload has intensified, not because the corporate mission has fundamentally changed. The layoffs are jarring, but they are a standard part of aligning the new business model. If you aren't feeling the mission anymore, it’s probably time to start interviewing elsewhere rather than waiting for a culture shift that isn't coming.
