Performance reviews feeling more critical lately?

Lately, it feels like performance reviews are getting way more granular and critical than usual. I've been here a few years and normally my reviews are pretty straightforward, but this past cycle felt like they were really digging for negatives. There's a lot of talk about 'efficiency' and 'optimization' in all-hands meetings, which usually precedes some kind of belt-tightening. It's making me a bit nervous, especially with the current economic climate. Is anyone else experiencing this shift in how performance is being evaluated? Feels like they're setting the stage for something, and it's not sounding like good news for many.
