Anyone else noticing the 'restructuring' whispers getting louder?

Is it just me, or has the vibe in the slack channels shifted lately? Ever since the last town hall, the leadership team has been hyper-focused on 'operational efficiency' and 'streamlining global workflows.' We’ve heard that corporate speak before, but the intensity feels different this time. My manager has been acting strangely cagey during our 1:1s, almost like they’re trying to avoid answering direct questions about project funding for Q4. I’ve noticed a few freezes on headcount in our department that were supposed to be backfills, and now those reqs have just vanished into thin air. It feels like the calm before a storm. I’m starting to get that old familiar pit in my stomach that we’re about to see another round of involuntary departures disguised as a 'strategic realignment.' Is anyone hearing anything concrete, or are we just reading too much into the usual post-merger integration jitters? Would love to know if other orgs are seeing the same hiring freezes or if my team is just uniquely on the chopping block.

It’s not just you. The 'operational efficiency' talk is definitely a red flag. I’ve noticed the same cagey behavior from leadership regarding project roadmaps. When they start mentioning streamlining workflows after a massive merger, it usually means budget cuts are right around the corner. I’ve stopped asking about long-term goals in meetings because the answers are always vague. If they’re freezing headcount now, they’re just waiting for the fiscal quarter to reset before they start the layoffs. Start polishing your resume now, because the vibe shift is real and it’s usually the precursor to a bad announcement.
