Hiring freezes and budget cuts at Gen?

It feels like there's a hush-hush hiring freeze happening across multiple departments at Gen. Posted jobs are disappearing, and roles that were open for months are suddenly marked as 'on hold.' Also hearing whispers about budget cuts for some teams, especially those not directly tied to core product development or revenue generation. Is this a company-wide thing or isolated incidents? My manager is being pretty tight-lipped, just saying 'we're optimizing resources.' Feels like we're heading into a tighter period. Anyone else in similar boats or have any intel on the extent of this?

I've noticed similar things. Several roles I was keeping an eye on vanished from the careers page without explanation. It's a bit unsettling when leadership isn't more transparent about these kinds of shifts. 'Optimizing resources' can mean a lot of things, and usually, it doesn't bode well for headcount. Hopefully, it's just a temporary belt-tightening and not a sign of deeper issues.

Definitely not isolated. I'm in a non-core product team and we've had our budget slashed significantly this quarter. We're basically on ice for any new projects or even essential software renewals. It's creating a lot of uncertainty and making it hard to plan anything long-term. Wondering if this is a strategic pivot or just a reaction to current market conditions.
