Anyone else noticing the tightening on travel/OT?

Is it just my department or are we seeing a company-wide squeeze? My manager pulled the plug on two site visits scheduled for next month, citing 'discretionary spending constraints.' Usually, this happens right before leadership starts looking at the bottom line to make cuts. The mood around the office feels weirdly quiet lately, like everyone is waiting for the other shoe to drop. I’ve been here long enough to recognize the pattern, but I’m hoping I’m just being paranoid. Any rumors from anyone in operations or finance? I’d rather know now if we’re heading for a headcount reduction than get blindsided in Q4.

It is definitely happening across the board. I had a planned training trip canceled last week with the same vague excuse about discretionary spending. Leadership always plays it cool until the final minute, but the writing is on the wall. They are clearly trying to balance the books before the end of the quarter. Don't second-guess your instincts; when travel gets frozen like this, usually the next phase is a hiring freeze or a reduction in force. Keep your resume polished just in case.

You aren't being paranoid at all. I have noticed the exact same tightening on overtime and project-related travel in my department. It feels like every time the bottom line gets squeezed, the first thing they go after is the actual work productivity. It’s frustrating because we’re expected to hit the same aggressive goals without the necessary resources or face-time at sites. The quiet in the halls is definitely ominous. Just keep your head down and track everything, but definitely prepare for a rough few months ahead.
