Anyone else blindsided by the Michigan site cuts?

I’ve been with GD for over six years now, thinking I was in a stable role because of the defense contracts. Then today hits, and we’re hearing about the 175 people out in Troy. The mood in the office is completely toxic right now. Management keeps sending out those generic 'strategic alignment' emails, but nobody actually tells us what the hell that means for those of us left behind. Is this the start of a broader trend, or is the Troy facility just being gutted for parts? I’m looking at my badge today wondering if I should even bother updating my internal profile or just head straight to LinkedIn. It’s hard to stay focused on deliverables when you’re watching your colleagues get their access revoked in real-time. If you were part of the 175, I’m sorry—this place treats talent like disposable hardware.

It is never just one facility when they start using corporate buzzwords like 'strategic alignment.' I saw the same thing happen at a different site a couple of years ago, and it’s usually the first step in a much larger consolidation effort. Don’t trust the silence from leadership right now; polish your resume and get your network moving before they announce another round of cuts. Loyalty to these firms is a one-way street, and the writing is clearly on the wall if they are already cutting deep into the workforce without a clear explanation.

That is absolutely brutal news, and I am sorry you are dealing with such an uncertain environment. It is infuriating how they hide behind vague emails while people lose their livelihoods overnight. Honestly, take this as your sign to start looking elsewhere immediately. If the culture has turned toxic and management is hiding the true scale of these layoffs, it is only a matter of time before the instability hits other departments. Protect your own interests first, because the company certainly isn’t going to look out for anyone except their shareholders.
