Troy site rumors: truth or just panic?

Following the news regarding the 175 cuts in Michigan, the morale here has completely cratered. Everyone is acting like a detective, trying to figure out who got targeted and if this is just the first wave of a larger consolidation effort. I spoke to a few people in my group, and we’re all getting the same vague, scripted responses from HR about 'business needs.' It’s frustrating because we’re currently juggling high-priority contracts, but suddenly we have fewer bodies to handle the workload. Are the remaining teams expected to just absorb the output, or are we looking at a wider strategy shift? If anyone has inside info on whether this location is still a long-term priority or if we’re just being prepped for a shutdown, please share. The lack of transparency is honestly worse than the layoff itself.

The 'business needs' line is just the standard corporate script they use before they start gutting teams. If you’re in Troy, keep your resume updated and start networking outside the company immediately. When leadership stops being transparent and starts hiding behind vague HR speak, it usually means the rumors have more truth to them than management admits. Don’t wait for the next wave to find out if you're on the list; protect yourself now because loyalty to this company won't protect your desk.

I’ve been through a few of these restructuring cycles at GD, and honestly, the anxiety is almost worse than the layoff itself. It sucks to be understaffed while trying to hit contract milestones, but that’s the reality of their current efficiency drive. Try not to let the panic consume you, as it only makes the daily grind unbearable. Focus on your specific tasks, document your contributions, and keep your head down until the dust settles. If they're consolidating, the remaining workload will be impossible, so look for an exit strategy on your own terms.
