Middle management looking rattled in recent town halls

Is it just me, or did the tone in the last all-hands feel weirdly robotic? I’ve been with GMI for a few years and usually, leadership is at least decent at 'rah-rah' energy, but this felt like they were reading from a script vetted by legal. Every question about 2025 growth was met with vague buzzwords about 'accelerated portfolio optimization.' We’ve seen enough cycles here to know exactly what that phrasing implies when the fiscal year starts getting tight. My manager, who usually has the inside scoop, has suddenly gone completely dark on any talk about our team’s roadmap for Q3 and Q4. When I pressed for clarity on resource allocation, I got a 'we’re evaluating priorities' line that I haven't heard in ages. Anyone else getting the vibe that the budget tightening is moving from 'soft guidance' to something more permanent? I’m seeing people hunkering down and doing the bare minimum to stay off the radar, which is never a good sign for morale.

Same feeling here. That 'portfolio optimization' phrase is corporate speak for cutting the fat, and we all know exactly what that means for our departments. The energy was definitely off. It felt like they were terrified of saying anything that wasn't strictly approved by legal, which is a massive departure from how they handled the last few years. If management is acting like they’re hiding a layoff list, they probably are. Keep your resume updated and watch for the signs before the quarter ends.
