Navigating career growth at Gilead amidst uncertainty

Been with Gilead for a bit, and while I appreciate the stability generally, lately I'm feeling a pull towards understanding where my career fits in long-term, especially with the current market and some of the recent news cycles around the industry. I'm not hearing direct layoff rumors, thankfully, but there's definitely a low hum of 'what if'. It makes career planning feel a little more precarious. Has anyone had conversations with their managers about development plans or potential future roles within the company that feel reassuring? Or are people finding themselves needing to look externally more proactively than they used to? Trying to balance staying engaged and productive here with ensuring my own professional future is secure. Would love to hear how others are approaching this, whether it's through internal networking, upskilling, or keeping an eye on the broader job market. Just want to make sure I'm being strategic.

I'm in a similar boat. It's tough when you enjoy the work and the people, but the broader industry shifts make you question the runway. I've tried to be proactive, focusing on upskilling in areas that seem more recession-proof or aligned with Gilead's stated strategic priorities, even if those aren't immediately obvious in day-to-day tasks. Have you considered cross-functional projects or exploring internal mobility options? Sometimes a different department can offer a fresh perspective and new opportunities.
