Rumors about headcount reduction in Corporate

Seeing a lot of strange movement in the Austin/San Antonio offices lately. There is definitely a freeze on some non-essential hiring and a lot of talk about evaluating the 'value-add' of certain support roles. I have a buddy in supply chain who mentioned that management is looking to trim overhead by the end of the fiscal year. H-E-B has always been pretty insulated from the retail slaughterhouse, but given the current market climate, it feels like we aren't immune anymore. I’m not saying there’s a massive RIF coming tomorrow, but the culture definitely feels like it’s becoming more cutthroat and numbers-focused. If you’re a contractor, I’d be especially wary right now, as those seem to be the first ones on the chopping block whenever they want to tighten the belt. Anyone else getting that vibe? Let’s keep this thread updated if anyone hears anything concrete.

I’ve been hearing similar rumblings around the San Antonio campus. It’s definitely a shift in culture compared to how they’ve handled things in the past. Usually, they pride themselves on taking care of their own, but if they are actually cutting overhead to hit fiscal targets, it suggests the pressure from the corporate side is mounting. It’s hard to tell if this is just standard tightening or the beginning of a larger restructuring effort. Keep your head down and start backing up your personal files just in case.

Honestly, this is long overdue. As much as everyone loves the brand, the corporate bloat has been getting out of control for years. You look at some of these support departments and they are incredibly inefficient. A reality check is probably healthy for the company long-term, even if it feels jarring right now. Every large retailer goes through these cycles of aggressive expansion followed by necessary pruning. If you’re truly providing value, you have nothing to worry about, but those coasting on legacy roles are rightfully nervous.
