Anyone hearing whispers about Q3 headcounts?

Is anyone else getting a weird vibe in their vertical lately? Usually, by this time of the quarter, we’d have at least some communication about resource leveling or potential bench reduction targets, but everything has been unusually quiet. My manager keeps dodging questions about budget approvals for the upcoming cycle, and a few projects in my portfolio just got their SOWs extended by only a month at a time, which feels like they’re trying to keep the headcount flexible without committing to anything long-term. I’ve been with HCL for five years and usually, the 'lean' period is announced by now if there’s a major push for margin expansion. I’m starting to wonder if they’re holding off on the official comms until after the next analyst call or if we’re actually in the clear for a few months. Has anyone seen any changes in their project codes or noticed a sudden push for backfilling roles? Just trying to gauge if I should be polishing the resume or if this is just the usual corporate opacity.

The quiet is definitely intentional. When leadership starts playing the 'wait and see' game with SOW extensions, it’s rarely a sign of growth. I’ve noticed the same pattern in my vertical where project timelines are being sliced into these bizarre short-term increments. It’s almost certainly a strategy to keep operational flexibility high while they prepare for a potential restructuring or a shift in focus. Don't take the silence as stability; take it as a signal to keep your resume polished and your LinkedIn network active. They aren't talking because the numbers haven't been finalized yet.

Same vibe over here. My manager was literally sweating when I brought up the budget roadmap for next quarter. It feels like they’re being kept in the dark just as much as we are, which is honestly more concerning than a direct announcement. The month-to-month extensions are a classic move to avoid severance liabilities if they decide to cut the cord on specific portfolios. If you're seeing those short cycles, it’s time to start looking at internal transfers or external roles. It’s better to jump ship now than to be caught off guard when the inevitable freeze hits.
