Yeah, I'm in lumber and I've noticed the same thing. The atmosphere is definitely tense. Lots of hushed conversations and people avoiding eye contact. "Restructuring" is never a good sign. When they start using vague terms like that, it usually means layoffs are coming. Start polishing up your resume and maybe look around at other hardware stores in the area, just in case. Better to be prepared than caught off guard. Good luck.
Honestly, this happens every few years. Slow season hits, management gets worried, rumors start flying. Remember back in 2018? Everyone thought the world was ending then too. Unless you get a direct communication from corporate, I wouldn't put too much stock in it. Just keep doing your job well, and don't get caught up in the gossip. Worrying about things you can't control isn't going to help anything.
