Is anyone else's store cutting hours like crazy?

Seriously, what is going on? I've been with Home Depot for 8 years, in the garden center, and I've never seen anything like this. They're slashing everyone's hours, including full-timers. I went from 40 hours to barely 25 next week. My manager says it's 'seasonal adjustments,' but it's not even the slow season yet. It feels like they're trying to get people to quit without actually firing them so they don't have to pay unemployment. Anyone else experiencing this, or is it just my store? I'm really starting to worry about being able to pay my bills. Makes you wonder if something bigger is coming down the pipeline...

Yeah, it's happening at my store too (lumber). Same story - 'seasonal adjustments,' even though we're still swamped every weekend. Seems fishy, especially hitting full-timers like that. I've heard whispers about corporate tightening the belt because of some missed earnings projections. Start documenting everything, especially any communication about the hour cuts. If they're forcing people out to avoid unemployment claims, that's illegal, and you'll need proof.

Honestly, every year around this time, they pull this stunt. Eight years in the garden center should tell you that things slow down after the initial spring rush. Sure, it FEELS early, but people aren't buying mulch and flowers like they were in April. Maybe your store just over-hired anticipating a longer busy season? It sucks, I get it, but 'corporate conspiracy' feels a bit dramatic. Start looking for a second job, maybe something part-time, to supplement your income during the slow periods. That's what I do.
