Thinking about career paths post-Home Depot?

Hey everyone, just wanted to see if anyone else is starting to think long-term about their career after working at HD. The past couple of years have been... interesting. Lots of changes, and while I appreciate the stability, I'm starting to wonder what's next. I've been here a while and learned a lot about customer service, inventory, and dealing with all sorts of situations. But I'm curious if anyone has successfully transitioned out of retail into something else, and what skills you found transferable. Or, if you're planning to stay, what are your goals? Are you looking at management, corporate, or something else entirely? Just trying to get a feel for where others are at mentally.

Definitely understand where you're coming from. HD definitely teaches you a ton about managing people, problem-solving on the fly, and keeping organized, even when chaos is brewing. Those skills are super transferable, honestly. Think about project management, logistics, or even roles in operations for other industries. A lot of companies value that hands-on experience with customer interaction and product knowledge. Don't underestimate the value of what you've learned there – it's a solid foundation.

It's a common thought after a stint at a big box store. Retail can be a great training ground, but it's also easy to feel pigeonholed. The key is to identify the transferable skills. Did you excel at training new hires? That's leadership. Were you great at diagnosing customer issues? That's analytical thinking. Maybe you got good at spotting inventory discrepancies? That's attention to detail. Frame those experiences as assets for your next move, whatever it may be. Good luck!
