I’ve been tracking this same trend in the Phoenix office. Every time the buzzwords shift from 'growth' to 'operational excellence,' we all know what comes next. They love to gaslight us during the all-hands, acting like these changes are just about agility, but the data tracking and the sudden lack of transparency from middle management are major red flags. If you are seeing locked calendars and increased scrutiny on time-tracking, start updating your resume now. It is the same playbook they have run for years, and it never ends well for the actual engineers.
Honestly, the writing is on the wall. I stopped paying attention to the corporate-speak months ago because it is just a distraction while they prep the next round of headcount reductions. Whenever they start pushing 'efficiency' and 'streamlining,' it is purely a signal to the shareholders that they are tightening the belt before the quarter ends. Just keep your head down, do your job, and don't get emotionally invested in whatever mission statement they are selling this week. It is just a business move, and unfortunately, we are usually the first expense they decide to optimize.
