Hormel Foods: Mid-level management getting squeezed?

Is it just me, or has the vibe in the office shifted drastically over the last few weeks? It feels like every time I open my calendar, there’s another 'strategy alignment' meeting that just ends up being a lecture on efficiency and doing more with less. I’ve been here for over five years, and the atmosphere used to be focused on product quality and long-term goals. Now, it feels like we’re just watching the clock, waiting for the other shoe to drop. There are whispers about 'streamlining' across various business units, but HR is staying completely silent whenever someone brings up the topic of restructuring. My director won't look me in the eye during 1:1s lately, and it’s making me incredibly anxious about my Q4 deliverables. I’m currently updating my resume just in case, because this constant tension is becoming unbearable. Is anyone else hearing rumors about potential headcount reductions in the corporate offices? I’d rather know now than be blindsided by a sudden invite to a Friday afternoon sync.

It is definitely not just you. The culture shift has been palpable for a while now. Those 'efficiency' meetings are usually code for headcount reductions before a bad quarterly report. I’ve noticed the same trend of focusing on metrics over the actual product quality that used to define this place. If you are hearing whispers about streamlining, start updating your resume. It usually starts with middle management feeling the heat before the wider cuts happen, and at this point, the writing is clearly on the wall. Get ahead of it.

Honestly, the constant pivots and strategy meetings are becoming exhausting. It feels like leadership has lost sight of the core business in favor of chasing short-term margins. I have been watching the same patterns, and the morale drain is real. When they start using buzzwords like 'synergy' and 'streamlining' every other day, it is time to be cautious. Just keep your head down, do what is asked, but do not ignore your gut feeling. If things feel off, they usually are, so keep your options open.
