Hormel Foods: The 'Cost Transformation' buzzword

Has anyone else noticed the sudden obsession with the 'Cost Transformation' initiative in the latest town halls? I’ve been around long enough to know that when leadership starts using phrases like 'optimizing our organizational structure' and 'simplifying processes,' it’s usually code for a RIF. The transparency lately has been nonexistent. They keep touting the portfolio adjustments, but they are conveniently leaving out what that means for the actual people on the ground in the supporting functions. I’m seeing people spending more time on LinkedIn than on their actual projects, and honestly, I don't blame them. The severance package speculation is the only thing being discussed in the breakrooms. If they are planning something, I just wish they’d rip the band-aid off so we can stop living in this state of purgatory. Has anyone heard anything concrete from their VPs, or are we all just guessing based on these vague emails?

I’ve been hearing the exact same language in my department. It’s the classic corporate playbook: mask upcoming layoffs with 'efficiency' and 'optimization' jargon. It’s incredibly frustrating because we’re all doing more with less already. The lack of direct communication is the worst part—it keeps everyone on edge, waiting for the other shoe to drop. If they actually cared about the workforce, they would stop hiding behind these sanitized buzzwords and tell us what the real plan is for these support roles.

Honestly, the 'Cost Transformation' talk is just business as usual. Every few years, Hormel decides to tighten the belt, and unfortunately, it always seems to hit the support functions first. While I get that they need to stay competitive and adjust the portfolio, the way they sugarcoat it makes it so much worse. We aren't just line items on a spreadsheet to be optimized. Some clarity would go a long way, but I guess we’re all just expected to keep working until we’re told otherwise.
