Internal restructuring at Howmet feels like a prelude...

Okay, so I'm not sure what to call this, but it's not a direct layoff announcement. Yet. What I'm seeing at Howmet is a lot of 'strategic realignment' which, in my book, is corporate speak for something else. People are being moved around, some projects are being shelved, and there's a definite slowing down of hiring in certain areas. It's got that pre-layoff feeling, you know? Like they're tightening the belt before a storm. I've been trying to get clarity from leadership, but the answers are always vague about 'optimizing resources' or 'focusing on core competencies.' Is this just me being paranoid, or is anyone else in a similar boat? Curious if this is happening across different divisions or if it's localized. Feels like a good time to start networking a bit more seriously internally, just in case.

Yeah, that 'strategic realignment' buzzword is definitely a red flag. It usually means someone's job is on the line, even if they aren't saying it directly. It's a way to manage the optics and avoid immediate panic. Keep your ears to the ground and update your resume, just in case. It's better to be prepared than caught off guard with these kinds of moves.

I'm hearing similar things. The lack of clear communication is frustrating, but it's a common tactic when companies are preparing for significant changes, whether it's layoffs or a merger. The 'slowing down of hiring' is a classic sign that budgets are being scrutinized. Hopefully, it's just a temporary slowdown, but your instincts are probably right.
