I'm in the electrical construction materials side and haven't heard anything concrete about restructuring, but the 'efficiency drive' talk definitely resonates. We've been pushed to optimize processes and cut down on 'non-essential' expenditures for a while now. It's probably just the corporate machine trying to squeeze a little more out of every department. Keep your ear to the ground, but try not to get too stressed until something official comes out. Might just be standard year-end jitters.
Yeah, that 'cagey manager' bit is a classic. Sounds familiar. I worked at a company that went through a similar 'reorganization' a few years back. Suddenly, 'synergies' and 'streamlining' became buzzwords, and then people started getting laid off. Best advice I can give is to start updating your resume and networking outside the company. Don't wait for them to tell you it's happening. Be prepared for anything, even if it turns out to be nothing.
