Huntington Bank - What's the Deal with the Hiring Freeze?

Hey everyone, been working at Huntington for a few years now, mostly in the retail banking side. Lately, it feels like things have really slowed down. We had a few open positions in my branch that have been open for months, and the HR folks are basically saying 'no new hires' without really giving a reason. My manager is super cagey about it, just says 'streamlining.' I've also noticed a definite lack of communication from upper management about the overall company direction. Is anyone else seeing this? Are other departments affected, or is it just us? Feels a bit like they're bracing for something, but I haven't seen any official announcements. Just trying to get a sense of what's going on. Anyone in corporate or other divisions experiencing similar slowdowns or hiring freezes? Any rumors or insights would be appreciated. Trying not to panic, but the silence is loud.

Yeah, I've definitely felt a similar chill, though I'm on the corporate side. There have been whispers about efficiency drives and cost-saving measures for a while, but it seems to be hitting hiring hard now. Totally get where you're coming from. I'm in a different department, but the vibe is the same – positions staying unfilled, projects stalling because we lack the headcount. 'Streamlining' is the buzzword everyone's using, but it feels like a euphemism for cutting back. The lack of direct communication from the top is the most frustrating part. It breeds speculation and anxiety. Wishing you and your colleagues some clarity on what's actually happening behind the scenes.
