Honestly, the TCF hangover never really went away. It feels like we’ve been in a perpetual state of 'integration' for years now, just rebranded every few months as a new strategic initiative. The morale in my department is at an all-time low because no one believes the official messaging anymore. We are constantly told we are pivoting to tech, but it just feels like the same old cost-cutting measures dressed up in corporate jargon. It is hard to stay focused on daily tasks when you are constantly wondering if you will be the next one out the door.
I couldn't agree more. The culture has shifted from being a community-focused bank to a revolving door of layoffs and uncertainty. It is exhausting to sit through those all-hands meetings where leadership acts like everything is fine while the floor is shrinking. At this point, most of us have just stopped engaging. We do what is required to get our paychecks and keep our resumes polished because it is clear that loyalty doesn't mean much here anymore. The heavy atmosphere is real, and until they stop treating headcount like the only metric that matters, it’s not going to get any better.
