Anyone else feeling the pre-layoff anxiety at Instacart?

I've been at Instacart for almost 3 years now, on the Engineering team. Lately, things have been...weird. Project timelines are getting pushed, hiring has completely frozen (even for critical roles), and my manager seems super stressed and vague whenever I ask about future plans. I know the whole tech industry is shaky right now, but the vibe here is different than just general market uncertainty. It feels like they're quietly preparing for something big, and it's making it hard to focus. Am I just being paranoid, or is anyone else sensing the same thing? Anyone have any insider knowledge or just general gut feelings they're willing to share? Trying to brace myself, or at least mentally prepare.

I hear you. I'm in a different department but seeing the same things. The sudden halt on spending is what worries me most. My team had a conference budget approved months ago, and now it's suddenly frozen with no explanation. Layoffs are never a fun experience, but the uncertainty is almost worse. Start updating your resume now, just in case. Better to be prepared than caught off guard.

Honestly, this sounds pretty standard for a company trying to manage costs in a downturn. Every company is tightening their belt right now. Project timelines always slip, and hiring freezes are practically a cliche at this point. Before you jump to conclusions about layoffs, consider the possibility that management is just trying to navigate the current economic climate without scaring everyone. Maybe give them the benefit of the doubt for a bit.
