Is anyone else seeing a hiring freeze creeping in?

Been at Instacart for about 3 years now, working on the Trust & Safety side. Lately, it feels like the spigot has been turned off for new hires. We had a couple of positions open on my team that have been posted for months with no movement. Recruiters seem really quiet, and when I ask around, people are hearing crickets about new headcount approvals. This feels different from just slow hiring; it feels like a deliberate pause. Anyone else in engineering or product seeing this on their teams? Wondering if this is a company-wide thing or just specific departments. Trying to gauge the general climate before things get... worse.

Yeah, I've been hearing similar whispers on the engineering side, though my team hasn't been directly impacted yet. We've had roles open for a while with surprisingly little traction from recruiters. It's definitely a shift from how things felt even six months ago. Makes you wonder if there's a larger strategy shift happening or if it's just a seasonal slowdown that's lasting longer than usual. Hopefully, it's just a temporary lull and things pick back up soon.

That's interesting you mention Trust & Safety. My team in Product has also felt a significant slowdown in hiring. We were expecting to backfill a couple of critical roles by Q2, but the budgets just aren't materializing. It's not just crickets; it feels like the doors have been politely, but firmly, closed for now. Management is being pretty tight-lipped about it, which only adds to the uncertainty. Definitely seeing the 'pause' you're talking about.
