Rant: So tired of the constant performance review pressure!

Seriously, I'm so over it. Every other week it feels like we're being asked to justify our existence. "Show impact! Be proactive! Deliver results!" I get it, the economy sucks, but the constant pressure is killing morale. I'm working my butt off, shipping features, and trying to keep my head above water, but it's never enough. Meanwhile, the VP is talking about record profits. It's hard to feel motivated when it feels like we're all just cogs in a machine. I needed to get that off my chest. Thanks for listening (or reading).

I feel you. It's brutal out there. I was at Instacart last year, and the pressure was insane. They kept moving the goalposts. One quarter it was all about speed, the next it was about efficiency, then suddenly it was all about 'customer obsession'. It's like they throw buzzwords at the wall and see what sticks. Honestly, start documenting EVERYTHING you do. Every meeting, every decision, every line of code. Then, when review time comes, you have ammo. It's CYA mode, but unfortunately necessary.

Record profits? I find that hard to believe. Instacart has been laying people off left and right. I suspect what they're calling 'record profits' is just a result of cost-cutting measures that are unsustainable. I'm not saying you shouldn't work hard, but maybe look around for other opportunities. If the company is squeezing you this hard while claiming financial success, it's a red flag. Protect yourself.
