Anyone else hearing whispers about Q3 restructuring at IP?

Is it just me, or does the energy in the office feel off lately? I’ve been hearing a lot of vague chatter during our regional syncs about 'optimizing the materials footprint' and 'streamlining operational overhead.' Every time leadership mentions these buzzwords, my anxiety spikes. I’ve been with International Paper for a few years now, and the communication hasn't felt this opaque since the last major consolidation cycle. My direct manager is playing it cool, but there’s definitely a shift in the tone of our weekly meetings. It feels like they are tightening the screws on travel budgets and outside vendor spend, which usually precedes a headcount freeze or a deeper cut. I've started quietly updating my resume just in case, but I’d rather not jump if this is just standard corporate noise. Has anyone else heard anything concrete, or are we all just reading into the same set of vague internal newsletters? Checking in to see if any of the manufacturing hubs are seeing a surge in 'project review' meetings, as that’s usually the first sign of trouble.

The 'optimizing' talk is definitely a red flag. I've been through two rounds of these restructurings, and every time they start using words like 'operational overhead,' layoffs usually follow within three months. Leadership never gives a straight answer until the severance packages are already drafted. My advice is to update your resume and start networking outside the company immediately. Don't wait for the official email to start looking, because by then, the best roles in our industry will be gone.

I'm hearing the same rumors, but honestly, it’s hard to tell if this is just standard post-merger integration noise or something more drastic. The office culture has definitely taken a hit, and the lack of transparency is starting to wear everyone down. Still, IP is a massive machine and these cycles happen every few years. Try not to panic until you see actual structural changes in your department. Keep your head down, do your work, and wait for the town hall next month before jumping to conclusions.
