Anyone else notice the budget freezes?

I’ve been trying to get approval for basic software tools that we need for our daily operations, and finance is just flat-out rejecting everything with zero explanation. Usually, they at least ask for a cost-benefit analysis, but now it’s just a blanket 'no new spend' policy across the board. We all know how this plays out in asset management—when the travel budget gets slashed and the recurring software licenses get reviewed with a fine-tooth comb, the payroll is usually the next thing on the chopping block. It feels like they are trying to pad the bottom line to make the books look prettier for a restructuring event later this year. Has anyone heard anything about department-specific targets? My team lead has been dodging my check-ins for two weeks now, and it’s getting pretty obvious that they know something they aren't allowed to share. Just checking if this is happening in the investment teams too or if it’s isolated to the support functions.

I’ve been seeing the exact same thing in my department over at Invesco. It feels like they are tightening the screws everywhere, and the lack of communication is what really makes it frustrating. When they start blocking basic tools, it’s a clear signal that leadership is trying to hit a specific margin target at the expense of our daily efficiency. You're spot on about the payroll concerns; it’s a classic move in this industry to freeze the small stuff before the real headcount cuts start rolling in. Keep your resume updated, honestly.

It is honestly exhausting. I submitted a request for a standard license renewal last week and got a flat rejection within ten minutes without any feedback. It feels like the finance team is operating on a directive to kill anything that moves just to make the quarterly balance sheet look a little prettier for the analysts. This whole 'no new spend' policy is making it impossible to get any actual work done, and the morale in my group is hitting an all-time low. I wouldn't be surprised if we see some major restructuring announcements before the end of the year.
