Project cancellations increasing? Seeing a pattern.

I’m on the delivery side and I’ve seen three separate projects get 'indefinitely paused' by clients in the last two weeks alone. Usually, we’d be getting pivoted to new accounts immediately, but this time, the bench is just growing. I’ve heard whispers from people in HR ops that the resource management tool has been locked down for 'maintenance' for an unusually long time. It feels like they are prepping a massive spreadsheet for a reduction in force. The lack of backfilling for people who leave voluntarily is also telling—we had two seniors quit last month and they were told the headcount was being 're-evaluated.' We all know what that means. If you're on a project that’s nearing completion, I’d suggest getting your resume updated ASAP. The writing is on the wall, even if the internal comms team is trying to keep things looking 'business as usual.' Stay safe out there.

It’s definitely getting quiet. I’ve noticed the same trend in my department—projects that were supposed to kick off last month have been pushed back indefinitely, and leadership is being completely silent about the budget freeze. When the resource management tools go dark like that, it’s rarely just a technical issue. I’ve started updating my resume just in case, because the 'voluntary turnover' strategy clearly isn't thinning the herd fast enough to satisfy the shareholders. Better to be prepared than caught off guard when the calendar invite for a 'business update' pops up.
