Anyone else's workload suddenly doubled?

Seriously, what is going on? I'm in compliance, been with JPM for almost 7 years, and the amount of work piled on my team in the last two weeks is insane. It's like they're trying to see how much we can handle before we break. I'm putting in 12-hour days just to keep up, and my manager keeps saying 'we're all in this together' but doesn't offer any actual help. Is this a prelude to something? Like, are they trying to get rid of people without actually laying them off, just forcing attrition? Or is it just my department that's getting hammered? Anyone else experiencing this?

I hear you. Been there, done that at another big bank. The "we're all in this together" line is corporate speak for "you're on your own, figure it out." Start documenting everything – tasks, hours, deadlines, and any communication with your manager about the workload. If it gets worse, or if they start performance-managing you for not keeping up (which is likely the end goal of this), you'll have a record to show it's not you, it's the unreasonable workload. Good luck!

Could be anything. Happens every few years. New regulations, internal audit findings, sometimes it's just poor planning from above. Try to network internally; compliance touches almost every department. Casually ask around other teams, see if they're feeling the squeeze too. If it's widespread, it's probably a temporary 'all hands on deck' situation. If it's isolated to your team... well, start polishing that resume just in case.
