August 25th cuts: Anyone else just get the calendar invite?

I’m honestly still in shock. My manager sent the invite for a 'Team Sync' 10 minutes before the meeting started. By the time I logged in, HR was already there with the script. No warning, no prior performance discussions, just 'role elimination due to restructuring.' I’ve been with the bank for five years and have always had high ratings, but I guess that doesn’t matter when the numbers need to be hit. They didn't even give me time to pull my performance review notes for the severance package negotiation. Does anyone know if the severance is actually getting paid out in full, or are they dragging their feet on the 401k vesting for those of us on the edge? Feeling completely disposable right now. If anyone is in the same boat in the NYC office, let me know if you’re finding any luck with recruiters today. The market feels brutal.

I am so sorry you are going through this. The exact same thing happened to a colleague of mine in a different division last year. It is brutal how they handle these layoffs with absolutely zero warning, treating dedicated employees like mere line items on a spreadsheet. Please make sure you take a few days to process this before you sign anything they send over. Document everything you have from your time there, even if you can’t pull the performance notes right now, and look into a consultation with an employment lawyer just to be safe.

This is the classic JPMC playbook. They have been doing these 'restructuring' rounds with no notice for years, regardless of how high your ratings are or how much overtime you put in. It’s a cold corporate culture that values the quarterly bottom line far more than human capital. Don't take it personally—it is purely a math game for them. Take your severance, collect the unemployment, and use this as a chance to find a firm that actually treats people like professionals rather than numbers.
