Negotiating offers elsewhere - what's the JPM comp landscape looking like?

Been fielding some calls and actually got a decent offer from a competitor in [mention area, e.g., private equity or another large bank]. Trying to figure out what JPM is actually willing to do on comp right now, especially for [mention role type, e.g., mid-level analyst or associate] in [mention division, e.g., IBD or Asset Management]. Everything feels so opaque. My last raise was pretty standard, nothing crazy. Is anyone aware of recent retention bonuses or counter-offer trends? Trying to gauge my leverage here and if it's even worth trying to stick it out or just take the new offer. Feels like the market is shifting fast.

Honestly, JPM comp can be a black box, especially for mid-level roles. They tend to stick to their bands pretty rigidly unless you have a competing offer that's significantly higher and they really, really want to keep you. Retention bonuses are rare unless you're at a very senior level or in a critical, hard-to-fill niche. Your best bet is to clearly articulate the value of the other offer and see if they'll budge. Don't expect miracles, but a small bump is possible if they value your contributions.

I've seen a few people get counter-offers, but it's not common, and usually only if the competitor's offer was truly eye-watering. JPM's strength has always been its name and stability, not necessarily being the absolute highest payer. If the other offer is significantly better and aligns with your career goals, it might be worth considering that as a growth opportunity beyond just the immediate comp. Sometimes the 'opaque' nature is just them sticking to their structured bonus pools and salary bands.
