Is the mid-year budget freeze a precursor to RIFs?

Is anyone else seeing the sudden clampdown on T&E and contract renewals? I’ve been with KDP for a few years now, and the silence from leadership regarding the Q3 targets feels… heavy. We’ve been told to 'tighten our belts' for the last month, but when you combine that with the recent push to shift headcount to the cheaper regional hubs, it feels like the writing is on the wall. I’ve noticed a lot of 'strategic alignment' meetings on my manager's calendar that aren't appearing on mine. Maybe I’m just being paranoid, but every time they mention 'optimizing our operational footprint' during the all-hands, I feel like my desk is becoming a target. Has anyone heard anything specific from their directors about Q4 projections or potential restructuring? It feels like we are all just waiting for the other shoe to drop before the holiday season.

I've been through a few of these cycles at KDP, and the pattern is identical every single time. Whenever they start talking about 'strategic alignment' and pushing headcount to regional hubs, a reduction in force usually follows within the quarter. The travel freeze is just the first step in optics management to make the books look lean before the layoffs hit. Honestly, if you aren't seeing those private meetings on your calendar, you should probably start polishing your resume now. It’s better to be prepared than caught off guard when the inevitable department-wide invites go out.

Honestly, people are always looking for ghosts in the machine. It’s just as likely that they are trying to protect the bottom line to hit end-of-year bonuses rather than prepping for a massive layoff. Every company pulls back on T&E when the market gets shaky, and KDP is no different. You’re overthinking the calendar invites; managers have to deal with administrative overhead that doesn't concern individual contributors. Just keep your head down, do your work, and stop doom-scrolling through the internal rumors. If it happens, it happens, but stressing about it now won't change the fiscal reality.
