Feeling the pressure to document everything lately

Is everyone else being micromanaged to death this quarter? My manager suddenly wants detailed daily updates on every single task, even the routine maintenance stuff. It feels like they are building a paper trail to justify headcount reductions or to make performance management cases against people so they don't have to pay severance. The vibe in the office is super tense—we're all just keeping our heads down and trying to avoid any attention. It’s hard to focus on actual engineering work when you feel like you’re constantly documenting your own existence just to stay off a potential list. Is this company-wide or just my group being toxic?

Same thing is happening over on my team. It’s definitely not just you. I’ve been at Keysight for a while and haven’t seen this level of scrutiny before. They are obsessively tracking billable hours and administrative tasks, which honestly just kills my actual engineering output. It feels like they’re trying to build a case for layoffs without having to say the word. Just keep your head down, document everything as requested, and don't give them a reason to look your way. It’s exhausting, but that’s the current climate.
