Is anyone actually surprised?

Honestly, the 39 layoffs in NY are just another Tuesday at this point. We’ve been living in a state of 'quiet restructuring' for months. Every time leadership mentions 'synergies' or 'optimizing our footprint,' we all know exactly what that means. It’s not about growth; it’s about making the quarterly numbers look pretty for the street. I’m tired of the corporate speak. We aren't 'resources' to be optimized, we're people with families who actually keep the infrastructure running while the executives play shell games with the org chart. If you’re still sitting in your seat today, count your blessings, but don't get too comfortable. Start networking now because loyalty to this company is a one-way street. Stay safe everyone, and good luck to those getting the boot.

The 'synergy' buzzword is the biggest red flag in the industry. It’s infuriating how they hide behind corporate jargon while cutting the very people who do the actual labor. Everyone knows these layoffs are just window dressing to inflate the stock price before the next earnings call, and it’s pathetic. We’ve seen this cycle repeat for years, and yet they still act like they’re surprised by the low morale. Maybe if they focused on the people maintaining the assets instead of appeasing shareholders, they wouldn’t be in this constant state of decay.

I’m sorry you’re dealing with this. It feels like we’re just numbers on a spreadsheet to these executives, completely disconnected from the reality of the work being done on the ground. When they talk about 'optimizing the footprint,' they’re really just stripping the company of its experience and capacity for growth. It’s hard to stay invested in a career path when you’re constantly looking over your shoulder wondering if you’re next on the chopping block. Hang in there; you deserve better than this constant corporate instability.
