The 'optimizing' narrative is getting old

Every time management talks about 'operational efficiency' and 'streamlining,' someone loses their livelihood. Watching another 39 people get walked out the door in NY while leadership collects their bonuses just hits different. We’re doing more work than ever with fewer resources, and the quality of life here is plummeting. They talk about energy infrastructure like it’s a long-term stability play, but the job security here has become a joke. I’m tired of the vague emails and the corporate speak. If they’re cutting, just be transparent about where the business is actually heading instead of acting like everything is business as usual. Anyone else feeling like they’re just burning the candle at both ends waiting for their own notice to arrive?

It is the same story every single quarter. They treat the workforce like a line item on a spreadsheet to be balanced rather than the actual engine keeping the pipelines running. When they preach about efficiency, they really mean cutting corners to pump up the dividend for the shareholders. Everyone knows the morale is at an all-time low, but as long as the cash flows, they won't change course. Start looking for an exit strategy now because this pattern only accelerates.

I understand the frustration, but honestly, this is just how the energy midstream sector operates today. It’s all about maintaining margins in a mature industry where growth is hard to come by. While the optics of leadership bonuses during layoffs are definitely terrible, the focus is purely on capital discipline. I wouldn't expect a sudden shift in strategy anytime soon, so it’s best to keep your head down, stack your cash, and ensure your own professional development isn't tethered to their promises of stability.
