Anyone else feeling the pressure on utilization metrics?

Is it just my team, or is the tone in the weekly pipeline meetings getting significantly more hostile? I’ve been with the firm for a few years, and the 'do more with less' mantra is starting to feel less like standard corporate fluff and more like a setup. Leadership keeps talking about 'optimizing capacity' and 'aligning resources with high-growth verticals,' which we all know is just management-speak for impending cuts. I’m seeing people logging on earlier and staying way later, but there’s this palpable anxiety in the breakroom that I haven't felt since 2020. I’m not saying there’s a RIF on the calendar, but the way they are scrutinizing every single line item on our department budgets makes me think someone upstairs is looking to trim the fat before year-end. Has anyone heard anything about potential restructuring in the private equity arm, or am I just being paranoid because of the market slowdown?

It's definitely not just your team. The shift in tone across the firm is palpable right now. Every meeting feels like a performance review where the goalposts keep moving, and the emphasis on 'utilization' has become the go-to excuse to squeeze out every possible hour. I’ve noticed the same trend with the late-night emails; it’s creating a culture of paranoia rather than actual productivity. Everyone is waiting for the other shoe to drop, and honestly, the burnout is hitting a breaking point. It’s hard to stay focused when you feel like you’re constantly being auditioned for a redundancy list.
