Anyone else noticing the calendar freeze?

Is it just my department, or is everyone else seeing a total block on new project approvals and hiring backfills for Q3? My manager keeps being vague about 'budgetary alignment' whenever someone asks about the roadmap for the next two quarters. We’ve been through this cycle before with the 3G model, and the silence from the leadership suite is starting to feel exactly like it did back in 2020. I’m seeing way more vendor contracts being scrutinized under a microscope lately, and travel spend is effectively zero unless you’re flying to Chicago for a mandatory 'strategy' session. It feels like they’re tightening the belt to make the margin targets look better for the next earnings call, which usually precedes a headcount cull. Are your teams seeing the same level of austerity, or are we just being squeezed harder in marketing?

It is definitely happening across the board. I’ve noticed the exact same freeze in my division. Every time we bring up an open req or a new initiative, it gets kicked down the road with the same 'budgetary alignment' script. It is frustrating because the workload hasn't decreased, but we are being asked to do more with less support. The vibe feels like we are bracing for another massive round of cost-cutting. I’m just trying to keep my head down and wait for the quarterly town hall to see if they actually address it, but I’m not holding my breath.

Honestly, stop looking for answers from leadership. They won't say a word until the decisions are already finalized and the emails go out. I’ve been through enough of these cycles here to know that when the vendor audits start and the hiring freezes hit, the cuts are usually right around the corner. Just update your resume and start networking outside the company now. It’s the same old playbook they have used for years under the 3G model, and we all know how that story usually ends for the mid-level staff.
