Same thing is happening in my department. It’s the classic Kraft Heinz playbook: squeeze the margins by burning out the survivors. When they stop backfilling, it’s not efficiency, it’s just the slow phase of a layoff strategy. They want us to do the work of two people for the same pay before they eventually cut the team altogether. Start polishing your resume now, because the 'alignment' talk never ends well for the people actually doing the work.
Honestly, the lack of transparency is the most frustrating part. We’re all sitting here watching the talent walk out the door, and leadership expects us to keep hitting the same KPIs without support. If they think we’re going to just absorb all those extra responsibilities without any mention of compensation or long-term job security, they’re delusional. It’s clear they are prioritizing the share price over the people who built the processes. Keep your eyes open for other opportunities; this ship is definitely taking on water.
