RTO mandates and 'resource optimization'

The messaging regarding the return-to-office push feels increasingly pointed. It’s not just about 'collaboration' anymore; it feels like they’re trying to identify who is willing to jump through hoops and who is willing to walk. I’ve been through enough of these cycles to know that when leadership starts hyper-focusing on desk swipes and building utilization stats while simultaneously freezing internal job postings, a layoff isn't far behind. They’re looking for any excuse to prune the org chart without having to pay out full severance packages. If you’re remote or hybrid, I’d suggest checking your internal status. I’m hearing whispers that HR is updating the 'performance impact' metrics, and we all know what that usually signals in a company like this. Anyone else getting that same gut feeling, or am I just being paranoid?

The writing is clearly on the wall. When management shifts the narrative from performance metrics to badge swipes, it’s a classic tactic to gauge compliance before they sharpen the axe. They want a self-selecting group of people to quit so they don’t have to pay severance packages. It’s an incredibly transparent play, and honestly, the culture has shifted so much that staying feels like you’re just waiting for the next round of 'synergy' cuts. If you’re seeing these patterns, start polishing that resume immediately.

I don’t think it’s as calculated as everyone makes it out to be. Leadership is just panicking because the stock hasn't moved in years, and they think forcing bodies into cubicles will somehow magically trigger innovation or cost savings. It’s misguided, sure, but it’s more about a lack of vision than a malicious conspiracy to prune the headcount. Still, it’s frustrating to work under people who prioritize empty rituals over actual output. The morale here has bottomed out, and watching everyone scramble is just depressing at this point.
