I’m sorry you’re going through this. In my experience, they almost always try to pressure you into signing that release immediately. Do not sign anything on the spot, no matter what HR says about a 'deadline' or 'expedited processing.' Take the paperwork home, read every single line, and if you have the means, pay a few hundred dollars for an employment lawyer to review it. Kroger is notorious for trying to strip away severance if they think you’ll sign without a fight. Protect yourself first; the company certainly won't do it for you.
It’s brutal in there right now, and the silence from leadership is deafening. I was part of the last round, and they definitely moved away from the standard week-per-year structure. They are trying to tighten the purse strings as much as possible, so expect them to offer a flat lump sum that is likely significantly lower than previous packages. Don't take the first offer they throw at you—sometimes there is wiggle room if you push back, but you have to be willing to hold out. Stay strong and focus on your next move.
