Just saw the official WARN notice update for the Portola Ave location in Livermore. It’s officially 200 headcount reduction effective April 3rd. I’ve been hearing rumors for weeks that the fab equipment space was cooling down, but seeing it on paper makes it real. If you’re at that site, I hope you have your severance packages reviewed by an attorney. This industry is so cyclical, but it never gets easier watching friends get walked out. Is anyone else hearing if this is just limited to Livermore or if the Fremont mothership is next on the chopping block? Everyone I talk to in engineering is keeping their head down and eyes on the exit, which is a terrible way to work. Stay safe out there.

It is brutal to see those numbers confirmed. I have been watching the semiconductor sector closely, and the slowdown in capital expenditure is clearly hitting Lam hard right now. While people always say this is a cyclical business, it is incredibly jarring to see it happen in real-time. For those affected, definitely do not rush through the paperwork. Make sure you understand the release terms before signing anything, as these packages can sometimes be negotiated if you have the right leverage or documentation regarding your tenure and role.

That is absolutely gut-wrenching. I have a few former colleagues still at that campus, and the mood has been pretty somber for a while now. Unfortunately, I have heard whispers that the cuts might bleed into other departments beyond the Livermore fab equipment group. The leadership has been quiet about the broader scope, which just makes the uncertainty worse for everyone remaining. If you are still there, keep your resume polished and start networking immediately because corporate transparency is nonexistent in this environment.
