Connell plant cuts: Is it just the beginning?

Did everyone see the WARN notice for the Connell facility? Another 379 people let go effective 11/30. I’ve been trying to keep my head down and just focus on my deliverables, but the mood in the office is absolutely toxic right now. It feels like we are constantly walking on eggshells waiting for the next shoe to drop. Leadership keeps talking about 'operational efficiency' and 'navigating market headwinds,' but it’s becoming pretty obvious that the strategy is just trimming headcount to satisfy the street. For those of us still here, the workload is becoming unsustainable. I’m doing the job of two people, and every time someone gets cut, the remaining tasks just get dumped on the rest of the team without any additional resources. How are you all handling the burnout? I’m seriously considering updating my resume this weekend because I don’t think things are going to stabilize anytime soon. Does anyone have any actual insight into whether there are more rounds planned for early 2025, or are we supposedly done with this chapter?

It is getting brutal out there. I worked at the Connell site for five years before they let me go during the last round of 'restructuring.' Management loves to hide behind corporate buzzwords like 'operational efficiency,' but it is just a clear sign they have lost their way. They are bleeding talent to keep the stock price afloat, and frankly, I wouldn't be surprised if this is just the first domino to fall for the rest of the facilities. Take care of yourself and start looking for an exit strategy now.

I honestly don't know why anyone is surprised by this news. Lamb Weston has been signaling these cost-cutting measures for months if you actually listen to the quarterly earnings calls. It is harsh, but this is the reality of the industry right now. If you have any skills that are transferable, I would strongly suggest updating your resume and testing the market. Staying to ride out the 'toxic' phase just to be on the next chopping block seems like a losing game at this point.
