Management's 'efficiency' metrics are becoming a joke

Has anyone else noticed how the internal messaging has shifted from 'growth' to 'relentless efficiency'? It feels like a massive gaslighting campaign. They expect the remaining team members to pick up the slack from the 82 people they’re dumping in November, but there’s no talk of restructuring workloads, just 'delivering the same value.' How exactly am I supposed to maintain the same project velocity when half my department is on the chopping block? The transparency here is nonexistent. We get these sterile corporate memos about our 'shared vision,' but the vision clearly doesn't include job security for anyone below the director level. It’s exhausting trying to perform at 110% while watching your coworkers get purged via WARN notices. If you’re currently interviewing here, take a long, hard look at the turnover stats before you commit. The culture is rotting from the top down.

It is the same old corporate script they play every cycle. They love using buzzwords like 'synergy' and 'efficiency' to disguise the fact that they are just slashing headcount to pad the quarterly margins for shareholders. You are right to be frustrated; expecting the same output from a skeleton crew is setting everyone up for failure. Document everything and don't burn yourself out trying to cover the gap. If they want less staff, they should be comfortable with less output.

Hang in there. I have seen this exact playbook happen at Sands before, and it never ends with the surviving team members being rewarded for their extra efforts. They want to squeeze every drop of productivity out of you before you burn out, all while keeping the internal comms vague to avoid any real accountability. Focus on doing your core tasks and stop trying to chase the 'value' metrics they keep inventing. Your mental health is worth more than their unrealistic performance goals.
