Manager started asking about 'redundant workflows' in 1:1s

Is anyone else getting these weirdly specific questions from leadership lately? My director sat me down yesterday and spent 20 minutes asking me to map out exactly which tasks I do that could be 'automated or consolidated' by other departments. It didn't feel like a normal process improvement talk; it felt like they were gathering a hit list for a structural reorganization. I’ve been with Live Nation for three years and I’ve never seen this level of scrutiny on daily output. People are already whispering about the Q4 outlook, and the vibe in the office is just getting weird. I’m starting to update my resume tonight because I don’t want to be caught off guard if they decide to trim the fat before the end of the year. If you’re seeing this kind of questioning in your department, be careful how you frame your value. Seems like they’re looking for any excuse to lean out the teams.

I went through this exact same song and dance last quarter. When they start asking you to define your own 'redundancy,' they’ve already made up their minds. They aren't looking for process improvements; they are looking for ways to justify cutting headcount before the next earnings call. Start downloading your portfolio, cleaning up your LinkedIn, and updating your resume today. It is always better to be the one walking out the door on your own terms rather than waiting for the calendar invite labeled 'Project Realign' to hit your inbox on a Friday afternoon.

That sounds like the typical corporate playbook. Live Nation loves to frame these 'workflow audits' as efficiency initiatives, but we all know that’s just code for layoffs. It’s incredibly demoralizing to have your daily output treated like a line item on a spreadsheet, especially when you’re just trying to keep the shows running. Honestly, I wouldn't overthink the 'how' or 'why'—just assume the worst-case scenario and start networking outside the company immediately. Don't give them the benefit of the doubt, because they definitely aren't giving you any.
