Feeling the pressure despite 'record' performance

It’s honestly exhausting. We’re being pushed to hit impossible KPIs despite the obvious understaffing in my division. Every time we ask about filling the open headcounts, we get the same canned response about 'disciplined growth' and 'navigating macro headwinds.' The contradiction is glaring—they talk about how strong our position is in the conglomerate, but then they pull back on the resources needed to actually sustain that growth. It feels like a setup. If they aren’t planning on letting people go, why are they tightening the belt so aggressively? I’ve started updating my resume just in case, because I’ve seen this pattern at other firms right before the axe falls. The lack of transparency from the top is what bothers me most. We’re adults; if things are tight, just say it instead of pretending everything is business as usual while we burn out.

It’s the classic Loews playbook. They love to tout the balance sheet and those quarterly highlights, but the boots on the ground always pay the price. You aren’t imagining the cognitive dissonance; 'disciplined growth' is just corporate speak for squeezing the remaining staff until they break. Don’t wait for them to address the understaffing, because they’ve already decided that your burnout is a cheaper line item than hiring new talent. Start looking for an exit strategy now, because this cycle of record profits built on empty teams never ends well for the employees.
