Corporate is bleeding us dry, morale is at an all-time low

It feels like every time I open my laptop, there’s another headline about Lowe’s trimming the headcount. 2,400 full-timers let go recently, and now these Michigan cuts? It’s a joke. They preach about 'customer service excellence' and 'investing in our people,' but as soon as the quarterly margins look a bit thin, the associates are the first ones tossed under the bus. I work in one of the stores that hasn't been hit yet, but you can feel the instability. They are cutting hours so low that we’re constantly understaffed, and then they have the audacity to walk around with clipboards asking why the floor isn’t perfect. You can't run a retail giant by automating every human element and treating tenured staff like disposable line items. Everyone I talk to is either updating their resume or actively interviewing elsewhere. The 'Lowes culture' is dead. We are just numbers on a spreadsheet to these executives who have never spent a Saturday morning dealing with a frustrated customer in the lumber aisle. If you’re still there, start planning your exit. Don't wait until they hand you the cardboard box.

I feel your pain. It’s the same story every quarter—corporate chases those bonus targets while the actual floor staff gets squeezed until we break. We’re expected to do the work of three people for less pay, and then they act shocked when customer service scores dip. It’s clear they don’t see us as human assets anymore; we’re just numbers on a spreadsheet they’re trying to trim. Honestly, start looking for an exit strategy now because this ship is only going to sink further.

That’s standard procedure for them at this point. They’ll talk about 'synergy' and 'strategic restructuring' while the store floors are literally falling apart and morale is nonexistent. It’s an endless cycle of cutting overhead just to inflate the stock price for the shareholders. The disconnect between the boardroom and the actual aisles is massive. Just do the bare minimum to get your check and don't let them kill your spirit—they certainly won't reward you for going above and beyond.
