It is honestly disgusting to watch leadership talk about record-breaking 'innovation' and strategic growth while simultaneously gutting the workforce at Sumner. These aren't just numbers on a spreadsheet; they are people's livelihoods being sacrificed to make the quarterly margins look slightly more attractive for shareholders. If this is their version of 'optimizing operations,' then the culture has officially rotted from the top down. Expect the remaining staff to be looking for the exit doors immediately because nobody wants to stick around for the next round of cuts.
Restructuring is always a tough pill to swallow, but these headcount reductions seem to be happening across the retail sector regardless of how well a company claims to be doing. It sucks for the 128 people affected in Sumner, and the anxiety regarding job security is totally valid for everyone else remaining. At the end of the day, these massive corporations prioritize lean operations over human capital every time. Hopefully, those impacted find better opportunities elsewhere soon, because clearly, the loyalty here is strictly one-way.
