I've noticed the same pattern. Whenever management starts dodging questions about budget planning and disappears into endless 'strategy sessions,' it usually means the ax is about to fall. The 'stay the course' rhetoric is just a placeholder until they finish drafting the next round of restructuring plans. I’ve lived through enough of these cycles at Lumen to know that the silence is almost always intentional. If you’re seeing the Q4 planning suddenly go dark, it’s time to start polishing your resume and looking at your options before the inevitable announcement drops.
Honestly, try not to overthink it. It’s easy to read into the silence, but keep in mind that the leadership team is likely dealing with massive structural debt and shifting market pressures that they aren't authorized to discuss with us yet. The vague answers are annoying, sure, but they’re likely just waiting for the green light on a broader company-wide pivot. Just focus on your own output, ignore the office chatter, and let the chaos play out. Worrying about the roadmap won't change the outcome, so just ride it out.
