Is anyone else feeling the chill on the network ops side?

Been here 5 years in Network Operations, specifically dealing with core routing. Lately, there's been this weird silence from management about Q4 projections and staffing. Used to get regular updates, even if they were just 'stay the course'. Now? Crickets. My team lead is acting cagey, and I've seen a couple of senior engineers suddenly looking very stressed, talking about 'market changes' in hushed tones. Anyone else in a similar technical role experiencing this? It's making it hard to focus on the day-to-day when you're wondering if your desk will be there next month. Just trying to gauge if this is a widespread feeling or if I'm just picking up on general industry jitters.

Yeah, I'm in a similar boat, though a bit further down the food chain than core routing. The general vibe here has definitely shifted from 'steady as she goes' to something more... uncertain. Management's been unusually quiet about anything beyond the immediate sprint, and there's a definite undercurrent of 'what's next?' among the rank and file. It's hard to plan or even feel motivated when the horizon seems so blurry. Maybe it's just the usual end-of-year jitters, but this feels different. Heard some whispers about potential reorganizations too, but nothing concrete.

Honestly, I'm not hearing the same things you are. My team's workload hasn't changed, and we're still getting regular updates from our direct managers about upcoming projects and goals. Maybe the silence is specific to certain departments or seniority levels? Core routing is a critical area, so perhaps there's a strategic decision being made behind closed doors that doesn't need to filter down to everyone yet. I'd focus on hitting your current targets and keep your resume updated just in case, but don't let the speculation get to you too much. Things are always in flux in this industry.
