Lumen: Performance reviews and what they *really* mean now

So, performance review season is upon us at Lumen, and honestly, the usual process feels… different this year. There's a lot more emphasis on 'efficiency' and 'productivity metrics,' which I get to a degree, but it feels like the underlying message is about justification. My manager has been pushing for detailed explanations of every task and project, almost like we need to prove our value beyond just doing our jobs well. It makes me wonder if these reviews are being used as a prelude to something else. With the general quietness about official numbers but the noticeable slowdown in hiring and project approvals, it feels like they're building a case for something. Is anyone else finding their reviews are more scrutinized or focused on these granular metrics? Are you seeing the same pressure to constantly justify your role? It's creating a lot of anxiety, trying to hit these targets when resources feel like they're being pulled back.

I've seen this trend at a few companies recently. It feels like management is under pressure to demonstrate cost savings or justify headcount, and performance reviews become the tool to do it. It's frustrating when you're just trying to do good work and suddenly feel like you're on trial. Hopefully, it's just a temporary phase and not indicative of deeper issues. Keep detailed records of your accomplishments; it can't hurt.
