Severance packages - what's the typical ballpark at telcos like this?

Hey everyone, throwing this out there anonymously. No layoffs announced here yet, but with the way things are going industry-wide and some of the 'realignments' I've seen internally, it feels like it's only a matter of time. I've been with Lumen for about 7 years, mostly in network operations. I'm trying to get a sense of what to expect if the worst happens. Can anyone share what they've seen or heard about severance packages at companies in this sector, specifically Lumen if possible? Not looking for exact numbers, but like, weeks per year of service, any bonus payouts, continuation of benefits, that sort of thing. Just trying to prepare myself mentally and financially. Appreciate any insights, thanks.

Hey man, totally understand the anxiety. It's rough seeing the industry shift. While I haven't seen Lumen's exact playbook, I can tell you from experience at another telco that severance usually depends on tenure and level. Expect maybe a week or two per year of service, plus some COBRA subsidy. Don't bank on it being amazing, but definitely have your resume polished and start networking now. Knowledge is power in these situations.

Honestly, trying to predict severance packages is like guessing the lottery numbers. It's so dependent on the company's financial health at the time, legal maneuvering, and who knows what else. Seven years is a decent run, so you'd hope for something reasonable, but 'reasonable' is subjective. Your best bet is to keep your head down, do good work, and if something happens, focus on negotiating what you can. Don't spend too much energy worrying about hypotheticals.
